DEI Policy
Diversity, equity, and inclusion
DEI isn't a checkbox for us. It's the design principle behind every feature, every policy, and every community we help build.
What DEI means to us
Diversity, equity, and inclusion aren't aspirational language — they're operational requirements. They shape who we build for, what features we prioritize, which organizers we partner with, and how we respond when things go wrong.
We start from the premise that people have always been left out of the spaces they deserved to be in. Our job is to make that less true — to build a platform that actively creates room for people who've historically had to make their own.
This means making deliberate choices, not neutral ones. Neutrality in spaces that have historically excluded people isn't fairness — it's just a slower version of the same outcome.
Who we build for
Always Funday is explicitly built to be welcoming of:
- The LGBTQ+ community. Always Funday is a queer-affirming platform. This is non-negotiable. We actively welcome gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, nonbinary, queer, and questioning people, and we design for them — not as an afterthought.
- BIPOC communities. Events, organizers, and spaces that center Black, Indigenous, and people of color are welcome and valued here.
- People with disabilities. We build accessible features and support organizers in creating physically and digitally accessible events.
- People of all genders and gender expressions. No one is required to fit a binary here.
- People of all economic backgrounds. Our pricing model is designed to make event attendance free, always. We believe cost should not be a barrier to community.
- Newcomers and beginners. You don't need to know anyone or have experience to belong here.
How we build for inclusion
Inclusion shows up in our product decisions:
- Attendance is always free. We will not charge attendees, ever. The $150/year organizer subscription funds the platform; the community itself remains accessible.
- Event categories reflect real communities. We design event categories that reflect the full range of communities who organize — not just the mainstream ones.
- We surface underrepresented organizers. Discovery features are designed to lift up a diverse range of events, not just the most-followed accounts.
- We support hybrid and online formats. Not everyone can get somewhere physically. We treat online attendance as a first-class option.
Our standard for organizers
Organizers on Always Funday agree to our Community Standards and are expected to uphold an inclusive environment at their events. Specifically:
- Events may not exclude attendees based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, national origin, or any other protected characteristic.
- Events whose purpose is to discriminate, demean, or cause harm to any group are not permitted on the platform.
- Organizers are responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for their attendees. That includes responding to concerns raised by attendees and cooperating with Always Funday's moderation process when needed.
We review reported events and take action when organizers fall short of this standard, up to and including removing events and revoking organizer access.
We're always learning
We don't claim to have this perfect. Building an inclusive platform is ongoing work — it requires listening to the communities we serve and changing when we get things wrong.
If you see a way we could be more inclusive, or if something we're doing is causing harm, please tell us. We'd rather know.
